Our perfumer, Marina, started her journey into perfumery by studying the history of ancient aromatic traditions and attempting to recreate old fragrance formulas found in Sacred Egyptian texts, the Bible and the Vedas.

During this hands-on course, Marina will take you on an aromatic journey through Egypt’s fragrant past, and share with you what she has learnt over the years, including a wealth of fragrant formulas that were common in ancient Egypt.

You will learn about the traditional aromatic materials used in the day, the various methods in which unguents, fragrant pastes and incense were prepared, and their uses in Egyptian society, from worship to funerary rituals.

The course includes several practical sessions and covers the following:
• Egypt’s sacred fragrance tradition
• Egyptian deities associated with perfume
• Ingredients used in ancient Egyptian perfumes and incense
• Making the sacred perfumes of ancient Egypt
• Unguent cones
• The lotus flower
• Incense in ancient Egypt
• Making Egyptian incense
